12 Rules Everyone Should Follow

Life can be sucky, or life can be great. We all have good days and bad days. Some things are entirely out of our control, but most of the time we have complete authority to make life more enjoyable. Here are 12 simple ways to start making the most out of life everyday:

1 – Change your thoughts to be positive.

Negative thoughts are way more damaging than we realize, and allowing them to continue to pass through our minds all day will create a hostile environment for our souls. The next time unkind thought comes to mind, immediately counteract it with a more positive one.

2 – Spend more time doing things that you enjoy.

Actively schedule activities within your week that will make you laugh and smile.

3 – Live in the moment and be mindful.

Try not to get caught up in planning and worrying about future troubles. Just breathe and enjoy what’s going on right now.

4 – Take good care of yourself.

Being selfless is important and meaningful, but nothing will ever get done if you allow your own health and wellness to falter. It’s totally okay to put yourself first sometimes.

5 – Be kind.

This goes for others and yourself. Always be kind, even when it’s difficult. This will keep your spirits up.

6 – Be brave and have an open mind.

Try new things. You’ll never know what amazing opportunities for an awesome life await you in the world if you never get out and do some exploring.

7 – Let yourself love.

Lowering barriers in order to let others in and allow ourselves to love can be terrifying. When we open up, yes, we open ourselves up to potentially be hurt. But we are also potentially creating a new, amazing friendship.

8 – Never sweat the small stuff.

Condition yourself to quickly let go of minor annoyances. If no one is dying or severely hurt, find ways to get passed the situation without letting it upset you.

9 – Understand that life is short.

Train your brain to see the big picture. Time is precious and we all need to truly know that one day we’ll be asking for more.

10 – Search for connections.

Connecting with others and with ourselves is one of the most exhilarating experiences we can have as humans. Make an effort to meet new people, discover your own values, and experience all the world has to offer.

11 – Avoid judging others and let judgement from other people go unheard.

Judgement is one of the most damaging flaws. When we judge others, we only hurt ourselves in return. And when we let the opinions of others dictate how we live, we become slaves to words. Make an effort to live and let others live the way they feel fit.

12 – Be grateful and always show gratitude.

No matter how small or insignificant, every act of kindness deserves immense gratitude. Be grateful for everything good in your life from running water and electricity to special friendships.

Implementing these simple acts will lead to a better life. Life won’t last forever and it’s up to us to make the most of the time we have on this planet. Thanks for reading.

12 Reasons You Should Smile Right Now

No matter what is happening in your day as of now, take a minute to smile. Smiling has the power to completely turn your entire day around. I know it sounds cheesy, believe me, but it’s worth it to be a bit cheesy for a few seconds if it means making your day better. If you need some motivation, here’s a list of 12 reasons to smile right now:

1 – You are alive, your heart is beating.

The beating heart is a seemingly simple physiological mechanism. (Try saying that 3 times fast.) However, it’s what keeps us all going. And unfortunately, hearts stop beating everyday. So be grateful that your motor is still moving as it should.

2 – The Sun is up there in the sky.

The universe is a vast space of expanding matter. Think about our bright Sun up in the sky – it’s power, it’s energy, it’s ability to help sustain all of our lives down here on Earth. Appreciate the amazing Sun up there, feel it’s heat and see it’s power. Smile.

3 – Today is a new day, a chance to start fresh.

Whatever happened yesterday, today can be different. You have the power to make today better and more productive than the previous.

4 – Tomorrow will be another new day, with another chance for a new beginning.

Has today been sucky? Has everything in the book gone wrong? Guess what, tomorrow doesn’t have to be as poor. Hang in there and smile with the promise of another day ahead.

5 – You are on Earth, the most vibrant, flourishing with life planet in the galaxy.

That could have probably been worded more smoothly, but you see the point. Of all the planets in the universe, we are lucky enough to live on the one with the most life (that we know of). We are here because this amazing planet has the capacity to support our human lives. We owe the Earth for allowing us to live.

6 – For no reason at all.

Psychologically, smiling can actually improve your mood. Even without a reason. Behavior affects the mood in this case. So take a bathroom break and smile in the mirror.

7 – Your past hardships are over.

Though new challenges present themselves everyday, it helps to take a moment to remember all the battles of the past and how you pushed through. Smile at your persistence and hardiness through the wars of the past.

8 – Your story is yours alone.

Feel genuinely proud that your story is the only story of its kind. No one’s autobiography will mimic your own. Own the fact that you are unique and one of a kind.

9 – You live in the modern world.

Modern society has its flaws and its own issues, but we can all take a look at the previous centuries and see how lucky we are to live in the present. Medical advances, technological improvements, and overall quality of life have all contributed to generally happier lives. There are pros and cons with progression, but for the most part we are living in a cleaner, healthier world with more opportunities than our ancestors were given.

10 – A smile will make others smile.

One huge cheesy grin on your face has the radiant effect to spread and make someone else smile. So if you can’t find the power to smile for yourself, muster up the strength to cheer someone else up with a smile.

11 – The world is still spinning.

Here’s another big picture perspective tip – think about your problems in terms of the spinning Earth. All the issues, mistakes, and battles in the world won’t prevent the Earth from rotating. Smile at the rotating Earth, and that no matter how much damage we cause on the surface, it still persists to spin through space.

12 – Life goes on.

Sometimes life just really sucks. There’s no getting around it most of the time. We win, we lose, we fall, we bleed, and we cry. No matter what, life goes on. Always, life will go on. It’s a promise. And that’s a promise that we can all smile for.

12 Situations Where Silence is Golden

Keeping quiet isn’t always easy, and depending on who you are, it might be seemingly impossible.

Often, staying quiet is a great way to maintain internal peace. No matter how difficult it is to hold your tongue back, here are 12 scenarios when you should ALWAYS avoid saying anything:

1 – Arguments about politics

Politics is a touchy subject for many people. When these people get started debating on a political issue, it’s best to just stay out of it. It’s not something we are ever going to agree on. We don’t have to agree in order to be civil. Whether you disagree with someone or not, it’s wise to avoid the argument.

2 – Arguments about religion

Religion is another subject that the entire world is never going to agree upon. We all have our reasons for practicing the religion of our choice, and thankfully in many countries we also have legal right to do so. So trying to convince everyone that a certain religion is best, is typically a waste of breath.

3 – When others are purposely trying to provoke you

Some people don’t care at all about what they’re preaching, they only want to spark a reaction from others. Just keep quiet around these foolish people. Never give what they desire by taking part in their discussion.

4 – When others are gossiping

Gossip is never a good idea. Even if you and your best friend are alone on a desert island, gossip only causes harm to everyone being discussed and everyone doing the discussing.

5 – When someone is “throwing a fit”

This includes not only young children, but also adults. Grown individuals are sometimes prone to ridiculous, over-the-top, tantrums. Don’t let whatever insults leave these people’s mouths to offend you. Be rational while they’re being irrational.

6 – Arguments about a TV Show, Movie, or other forms of Media

If it’s not a conversation that’s involving  life and death, don’t allow yourself argue about it. We are all free to enjoy or despise any type of television, music, or pop culture item that we want to. Arguing over such things is just ignorant.

7 – Disputes between family members

Don’t get yourself into a position where you are forced to choose sides between two family members. Families fight and make up all the time. Stay neutral and let them work their own issues out.

8 – Disputes between couples

Again, having to choose a side is never a good position to be in. Their issues are their business alone. Don’t get involved.

9 – If you don’t have all the information

Unless all the details are known and out in the open, keep quiet. You don’t want to make a judgement call without having accurate facts.

10 – When others are feeling strong emotions

Sadness, anger, disappointment, and even happiness can lead people to do and say some insane things. Let them get all the adrenaline out of their systems and calm down before having any serious discussions.

11 – If you are feeling strong emotion

We tend to say things we don’t mean when we’re running on high emotion. Calm down before blurting out statements that you might later regret.

12 – If you have nothing positive to say

It’s the rule that your parents and teachers always preached but rarely followed themselves: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. This should be the golden rule.

Keep your dignity, and maintain your inner peace by staying quiet. The high ground is a nice place to be during these 12 uncomfortable situations. Have a great day free of arguments and heated discussions.
