12 Movie Mottos to Help You Through Life

Some movies are great, some are funny, and some are deep. Every now and then, a line spoken during a film hits close to home and is fitting for life in general. Here are the top 12 movie quotes than should be life mottos:

1 – “Hakuna Matata” The Lion King (1994)

“It means no worries, for the rest of your days.” This is a movie for kids, yet this saying is great for life. Shrug things off, let stuff go, and don’t worry too much about anything.

2 – “Why so serious?” The Dark Knight (2008)

This is similar to the previous. If you find yourself overthinking and overstressed about a situation, ask if it’s really worth all the damage.

3 – “Whatever it takes.” Avengers: Endgame (2019)

When something is important, do everything in your power to take care of it. Get the job you want, ask your crush on a date, start exercising – do whatever it takes.

4 – “Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.” Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

Money is not the goal of life. Figure out what’s your own personal form of treasure.

5 – “Happiness only real when shared.” Into the Wild (2007)

Connection with others is very important. Being completely alone too long isn’t healthy for anyone.

6 – “I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bulls***. For those ten seconds or less, I’m free.” The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Find your passion in life. Find the activity that keeps you grounded, an activity that takes your mind off of the stressors in life.

7 – “Compromise where you can. Where you can’t, don’t. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say, ‘No, you move.'” Captain American: Civil War (2016)

Stand firm with what matters to you most, regardless of what everyone else says.

8 – “Remember, kid – there’s heroes and there’s legends. Heroes get remembered, but legend never die. Follow your heart, kid, and you’ll never go wrong.” The Sandlot (1993)

Pursue things that give you excitement and trust your gut. If you feel enjoyment, it’s probably not a fluke. Keep doing it.

9 – “It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry, and forget to live.” Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

Dreams are important, but we should never put our lives and happiness on hold while making dreams happen.

10 – “Never tell me the odds.” Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Just go for it – don’t think about statistics, probability, chances, etc. Do what feels right.

11 – “Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Holding onto hate in the heart only hurts, lingers, and festers throughout life. Let go of hate, to prevent suffering.

12 – “For certain, you have to be lost to find the place that can’t be found.” Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007)

Odd logic, but we do tend to find people or opportunities when we are not looking for them.

12 Heartfelt Life Lessons from Kid Movies

Movies made for kids aren’t always appealing to adults. However, there are tons of movies out there, made for kids, that have great advice for adults, too. Once you get past the singing and predictable cheesy relationships, the lyrics hidden inside the script can provide beautiful gems of motivational words. Here are 12 lyrics/lines from kid movies that will get you ready to explore and love the world:

1 – “Hakuna Matata” (Lion King)

“It means ‘no worries.'”

How much time do we waste worrying about things we can never change? Brush it off and take your first step of an adventure without concern or anxiety.

2 – “No right, no wrong, no rules for me – I’m free.” (Frozen)

Who makes the rules of life? And more importantly, why do we – free thinking adults – follow the rules blindly? Let’s just go for it.

3 – “I’m never going back. The past is in the past.” (Frozen)

The past, the dreaded regretful past – it’s a backpack full of rocks. Metaphorically drop that backpack and leave it behind forever. That’s when you’ll be able to put all your energy into discovering your best self.

4 – “I’m on my way and I can’t keep this smile off my face.” (Brother Bear)

Moving on and moving forward – though a bit frightening – is liberating. Bury the bones of failures and begin your journey down a road of exploring your greatest potential. You might fall, but who cares? You are on your way.

5 – “Somehow I cannot hide who I am, though I’ve tried.” (Mulan)

Here’s another lyric that brings up the question – who makes the rules? Who decides who I’m supposed to be? And why have I spent years trying to fight my true identity…If you can relate to this, you are far from alone. It’s our turn to decide who we want to be in this life. Don’t hide. Reveal your true self and set sail.

6 – “But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you’ll learn things you never knew, you never knew.” (Pocahontas)

How many billions of people are out there in the world, just waiting to be met? Everyone has an awesome story to tell, so let’s get started. Meet, listen, and share experiences with others around the globe. Listen and learn, people are amazing novels of life.

7 – “But I just know there’s something bigger out there. I want to know, can you show me? I want to know about the strangers like me.” (Tarzan)

This has a similar theme as the lyric above. Listen and learn from the best libraries on earth – people. Hear stories and legends and experience different views on the world we live in. Every conversation can be seen as an adventure.

8 – “Two worlds, one family. Trust your heart, let faith decide, to guide these lives we see.” (Tarzan)

We are all unique, but we are all one big family here on this planet. Follow your heart and meet brothers and sisters along the way.

9 – “There’s more to see than can ever be seen, more to do than can ever be done.” (Lion King)

So much earth, so little time. Let’s get started! Adventure is around every corner.

10 – “Through despair and hope, through faith and love – until we find our place on the path unwinding.” (Lion King)

Just like the sun, humans rise and fall throughout life. It’s the ‘Circle of Life’ and it means we are living, exploring, and most importantly – trying. Try everything, experience all there is until you find that spark that warms your soul’s passion.

11 – “Such wonderful things surround you. What more is you lookin’ for?” (The Little Mermaid)

Travel doesn’t have to be extravagant and expensive. Adventure can be checking out a local park or trying new food at a restaurant. Local adventure is adventure nonetheless, and you’ll experience new things just miles away from home.

12 – “If I go, there’s just no telling how far I’ll go.” (Moana)

Just go – go for it. Only you can stop yourself now – you got this. Go. And good luck 🙂

Thanks for reading this post. Go have an adventure and learn about life, and most importantly – learn about you.
